Scenic atractions of Šibenik – Knin County

Krka National Park is located in the Šibenik-Knin County and encompasses an area of 109 km² of the most beautiful course of the Krka river and the lower course of the Čikola River. The area was proclaimed national park in 1985. The National Park includes one or more preserved or insignificantly altered ecosystems. By the submergence of the riverbed, the Krka River is about 72.5 kilometers long and has its source at the foot of the Dinara mountain. With seven travertine waterfalls and a total fall of 224 meters, the Krka is a natural and karst phenomenon. The beauty of Skradinski buk, the longest travertine barrier on the Krka River and one of the most famous beauties of Croatia, is particularly remarkable.

b) Kornati National Park covers the major part of the Kornati water area, and was proclaimed national park in 1980 due to its exceptional landscape beauty, interesting geomorphology, well-indented coastline and a rich marine ecosystem.

The Kornati Archipelago encompasses an area of about 320 km2. This most indented island ecosystem in the Adriatic Sea has 89 islands, islets and cliffs. It was named after the largest island of Kornati. Because of its uninhabitedness and wildness, intact nature and outstanding beauty, the Kornati are appealing to many tourists and important for the development of excursions, sports and nautical tourism.

KAPRIJE – ancient mediteran style

Kaprije is located about 15 kilometers southwest of Šibenik. The island surface is 7.11 km2 and the total length of the coast is 25.211 kilometers. The only settlement on the island is also called Kaprije, with its beautiful and protected harbour. It is named after the Mediterranean plant caper, its buds serve as a spice.

ŽIRJE

With a surface area of 15.43 km2 Žirje is the largest island in the Šibenik archipelago and also the furthest from Šibenik. It is unique for its numerous coves and a long coastline of 39.2 kilometers. Mala and Vela Stupica as well as Tratinska inlet give shelter to small boats, whilst the boat from Šibenik docks in Muna bay. Around the island there are numerous, beautiful islets.

ZLARIN – ISLAND OF CORALS

Zlarin is located southwest of Šibenik. It is separated from the mainland by the Šibenik Channel, and by a series of islets in the southwest by the Zlarin Channel. Zlarin is the island of corals where the handicraft of coral jewellery manufacture is still preserved today. Due to the beauty of its landscapes and crystal-clear sea, Zlarin is sometimes called the “golden island” (insula auri), too. It is also known as a tourist destination with the longest tradition in these areas. A famous Croatian poet Vesna Parun was born in Zlarin, after whom the local museum was named.

Prvić is an island in the Šibenik archipelago, in the vicinity of Vodice, with a surface area of 2.41 km². There are two villages on the island: Prvić Luka and Šepurine, which are connected by a about one kilometer long road. Šepurine is located in the western part, and Prvić Luka is located on the southeastern part of the island. Picturesque coves are ideal for bathers looking for loneliness and peace. During the Middle Ages, the Šibenik noble families lived on the island and took shelter from the plague. Prvić is the island of Faust Vrančić, a scientist, historian, linguist, philosopher, mathematician and physicist who lived in the 17th century, was born in Šibenik and spent his childhood on the island. He died in Venice, and was, according to his wish, buried on the island in the church of St. Mary of Grace in Prvić Luka. Faust Vrančić Memorial Center was built in Prvić Luka.

The island of Krapanj is the lowest and smallest inhabited island in the Adriatic. It is part of the Šibenik archipelago and is 300 m offshore at its closest point from Brodarica. Its highest altitude does not exceed 1.25 meters. The island is known for its sea sponges, and all this date back to a Franciscan friary from Crete, who introduced the local inhabitants to sponge diving and sponge gathering over three centuries ago. In addition, Krapanj is the island of a centuries-old tradition of diving and fishing. The center of the island is a settlement of mostly stone houses that form a narrow strip of narrow streets, characteristic for the Dalmatian landscape. Separated from this narrow strip are the centuries-old pine forest and a monastery of the Holy Cross, in which museum numerous exhibits are kept to testify about life of the inhabitants of Krapanj in the past.

BEACHES

Banj beach is a Šibenik city beach with a unique view to the old city center. You can reach it from the center of the city in a ten-minute walk on the waterside promenade. This beautiful pebble beach with numerous facilities, such as an outdoor exercise ground, is ideal for families with children as well as for all sports lovers. It is the bearer of the Blue Flag, the international ecological brand for top quality sea.

The sand beach in Amadria Park in Solaris is one of the most attractive sand beaches in the Šibenik-Knin County. It is ideal for relaxing and lounging all day long in the shade next to a turquoise sea. In addition to the sand beach, you can enjoy the Amadria Park on other beaches and the rich offer that this hotel complex offers. Apart from being the bearer of the Blue Flag, the international ecological brand for top quality sea, the sand beach has been proclaimed several times, on the national level, the most beautiful beach of the Adriatic.

Jadrija city beach has been a favourite beach for Šibenik residents and its guests since as far back as 1921. Thanks to its vicinity and good transport connections on both land and sea, its recognizable cabins in different colours, it is rightfully thought of as a Šibenik cultic beach.

Rezalište beach is located in Brodarica, a village six kilometers away from Šibenik. This pebble beach was restored in 2017 and equipped with numerous amenities for children, adults and all lovers of outdoor sports activities. In addition, there are numerous catering facilities where you can refresh yourself and have something to eat.

Beach in Žaborić is called a sand beach by the local residents and inhabitants of the surrounding villages, although it is about fine-graved gravel, ideal for sunbathing without unpleasant sand in the panties. The beach is located northwest of the city center, and the walking trail passing by the beach is ideal for taking a walk or riding a bicycle. There are shops and catering facilities, changing cubicles. You can also rent deck-chairs, parasols, pedal boats, jet ski, play beach volleyball or basketball. It is ideal for families with children.
